I’m becoming more and more in love with dyeing my own fiber and my own yarn. In the last year I’ve used tea, coffee and food dye to get some really great results.
I know that I already posted about the dyeing that I did this summer with my cousins, but I’ve been dyeing more fleece recently.
Sometimes the colours don’t turn out at, and sometimes things I didn’t think were going to work out at all really did. Especially with fiber, because I really don’t know what they yarn is going to look like until I actually spin it. I need to get into the habit though of dying more than an ounce or two at a time. On the one hand I want to mitigate my loss if I dye something really ugly but it also means that I don’t have enough yarn to really make anything out of the final product.
I want to share the photos of a yarn that I made recently that I’m totally in love with!
(The colours are most true on the first two photos, it got later in the day the more I spun. It’s about 2 oz of fiber, n-plied into a heavy worsted weight)
I can’t wait to do more dyeing when thing thaw out a little around here. We’re supposed to get another nasty snow storm this weekend and there is only so much drying wool I can expect my roommate to put up with in the living room!

Those are some very happy colors.
